The Hidden Track

A couple of weeks ago I posted a Higsons Track. In the copy of the post, I mentioned a Robyn Hitchcock song and linked it to an mp3 of the track. 34 people discovered and download the Hitchcock track versus 391 downloads of the Higson's mp3. I realize that regular visitors may bookmark my download page and skip the blog page altogether, but I also think that many people don't even bother to read the copy and just skip to the download. As other bloggers know, it takes time to write these things and while I am more of an information "regurgitator" than a writer, that regurgitation takes time to research and write. I'm thinking about cutting back on the background info going forward.

Please don't cut back on the background info. That is my favorite thing about your blog. Even when a band I don't care for is posted the background info still interests me.

If the Hitchcock tune was made more obvious as a downloadable link, I would have grabbed it.
It wasn't, and now currently unavailable :-(

I at least read these blogs, but assume the only mp3s are on top in bold type. Thx for recent blogs and tunes in any case......

Please carry on "regurgitating", this is one of the most informative blogs w/regards to background info. Maybe people were just more interested in the Higsons track!

I don't know anything about music and in the attempt to educate myself have discovered mp3 blogs... please don't cut down, there are some clueless people who need the edification. :)

I echo the sentiments of the others who want to read your stuff. I feel equally discouraged at the idea of people hotlinking my files without reading, but my entries are nowhere near as informative as yours. Keep up the work. Some of us are paying attention.

Well, no one hardly downloads any of my tunes but they appear to be reading it... go figure.

I'm one of the ones who got the Hitchcock track which is very "Hitchcockian" (funny, intelligent, catchy).
I also hope you don't stop adding comments. Having tried a little writing I appreciate how difficult even so-called regurgitating can be but I really appreciate the background info you give. I do my best to read every mp3 blog I visit, even if only to decide if the tunes are something that interest me.

P.S. I'm posting as anonymous because I don't have a blog but I'm actually Bill.

Hi

You link 'spoilt victorian child' on the side bar, but I guess you weren't there to read when he (?) broke down in tears about a month ago when a link posted in the comments got suspiciously overlooked by the downloaders. Anyway, I use your blog to catch up on the music I missed as a child being fed from top 40 charts and without enough money to invest in buying records. Since I don't believe in arbitrary downloading of material I, for example, did not download that other track since it's a bit newer and I also prefer studio productions to live recordings. I hope it makes you feel any better.

Oh, and I am a big fan of the fast show. I pick it up here on BBC prime. Suits you sir! oah! Suits you sir!

I'd like to thank everybody for their kinds words and support and ask forgiveness for whining. It figures that after that post The Guardian would recommend my site. Thanks go out to Stuart at 20 Jazz Funk Greats for letting me know. I'll continue to provide as much information as I can but will probably be a little lazier.

Here's the Guardian link http://www.guardian.co.uk/theguide/internet/story/0,,1321973,00.html

The service that you do isn't to a lot of people but a few. I have a site, but few people read it. Yet the ones that do like that a specific article often do because they feel personally gratified.

Your site may not find a large audience, but you are working hard to provide like-minded people with this site. Its giving them something new whenever you write and something they would be unlikely to find anywhere else.
