Get Smart!

Get Smart! Started playing together while attending the University of Kansas in Lawrence. They honed their Mid-west version of post-punk by playing locally and recording a couple of EP's. They moved to Chicago and became mainstays on the club scene. They released two albums, "Action Reaction"(Fever, 1984) and "Swimming With Sharks" (Restless,1986 ).

Get Smart! were:
Marc Koch - Guitar and lead vocals. Currently plays in Cryin' Out Loud
Frank Loose - Drums and vocals
Lisa Wertman - Bass guitar and vocals. Went on to play in Dolly Varden, The Nora O'Connor Band and The Honeybees.

Get Smart! were such a great band. Some of the hardest working artists I ever encountered. I saw them live many times and there live show is etched in my mind. It is too bad that there just wasnt the indie scene back then to support them. They really paved the way with blood, sweat and most likely tears. -Brendan

Get Smart! was my favorite "local" band from Chicago. They were hard working, talented and humble musicians that really personified D.I.Y.
Over the years most records have been re-issued on CD format, but alas, there seems to be little chance of getting a fresh copy of Get Smart! recordings. Too bad, the music would probably sound as fresh and relevant today as it did in 1986. "Swimming with Sharks" is a masterpiece. I treasure my vinyl collection, because of gems from the likes of Get Smart!

Also, I have some super 8mm film of the band if anyone might be interested.
